TrendingBlack Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 10, 2026

Overview

TrendingBlack is a Chrome extension that displays curated news articles relevant to Black culture and community when you open a new tab. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.

Data We Collect

Browsing articles in TrendingBlack requires no account and no personal data. If you choose to sign in with Google to react to or comment on articles, we collect the following from your Google profile:

When you are signed in, we also store the reactions and comments you submit, linked to your account, so we can display them back to you and other users.

We do not:

Network Requests

The extension makes requests to our API server (trendingblack.jeremiahoclark.workers.dev) to fetch news article data (titles, summaries, images, and source URLs). Article browsing requests do not include any user-identifying information. If you are signed in, requests that submit reactions or comments include a session token so we can associate those actions with your account.

Local Storage

The extension may use Chrome's local storage API (chrome.storage.local) to cache article data for faster loading. This data is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted externally. You can clear this data at any time by removing the extension.

Permissions

The extension requests the following permissions:

We request only the minimum permissions necessary for the extension to function.

Third-Party Services

News articles displayed in the extension link to their original publications (e.g., The Root, Black Enterprise, Essence). When you click an article, you are navigating to that publication's website, which is governed by their own privacy policy.

Children's Privacy

TrendingBlack is a general-audience news aggregator. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children under the age of 13.

Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above.
